FAQ

FAQ
How does the Portal work?

Vacancies are uploaded by higher education institutions. Each role is required to display the key competencies that the institution is seeking as well as their geographic location. Anyone who is registered on the Portal and has signed up for alerts who is seeking a role with matching expertise and location will then receive an email alert. You do not need to have signed up to the Portal to apply for a role, you can also search all current vacancies.

Who can sign up to the Portal?

The Portal is open to anyone who has an interest in becoming a governor in a higher education institution. You do not need to have had any previous experience as a governor or have worked in higher education.

How do I apply for a role?

Each individual vacancy will contain details of how to apply.  Each role will contain the key skills that it is being recruited on and should contain a link to further information such as a role description and person specification. Most roles will either be an online application or by submitting a CV or application form via email.

Where can I find further support?

There are a range of resources about the competencies required to become a governor or non-executive director. We recommend looking at the Advance HE Governor Competencies Map for further support. This a practical tool that is designed to support current and prospective higher education governors with developing key competencies and provides links to individual progression and development needs.

Who can post a board vacancy?

Roles that are being recruited can be posted by higher education institutions or their recruiters. Each role will be checked before it goes live on the website. Full details of what to include in the vacancy are on the post a vacancy page.

How do I stop receiving emails?

Each email you receive will have an option to unsubscribe at the end of the text. If you have any problems doing this, please contact either office@universitychairs.ac.uk or events@advance-he.ac.uk with a request to unsubscribe from email alerts.

How is my data being stored?

You can view the privacy notice and how data is being stored on the CUC Privacy Notice page.
