Bath Spa University is seeking a Governor who will have extensive digital / IT expertise at senior level to provide guidance and advice to the wider Board and executive team on the digital strategy of Bath Spa University. They will bring a willingness to be challenging but constructive and will provide a high level of scrutiny. In addition to joining the Board, the Governor will be appointed to the Finance and Infrastructure Committee and contribute to the oversight of the development and delivery of Bath Spa University’s strategy for its physical and digital estates.
The successful candidate will bring experience in senior strategic leadership roles in IT / technology and will have digital transformation experience. They may have operated in any sector but will ideally have experience from similarly sized / complex organisations. Individuals will bring a broad organisational perspective and could also come from a senior digital consultancy background. Candidates don’t need to have previous Board experience but will demonstrate a strong understanding of the difference between an executive and non-executive role. Additional experience that would be beneficial (but is by no means essential) will be in franchising, partnerships or international settings.
The successful candidate will act as a critical friend and will be able to advise on a range of digital / technology issues such as:
– Is Bath Spa’s level of IT / digital expenditure appropriate for its strategic ambition and development plans?
– Do its systems and data structures support performance assessment and decision-making? Are there future investments Bath
Spa should consider?
– Are Bath Spa’s staff and students sufficiently skilled to exploit the technologies that are available to them, especially regarding
AI?
– Is Bath Spa’s cyber-security sufficiently robust?
