Lay Trustee and Performance Sub-Committee Chair

King’s College London Students’ Union is seeking a Lay Trustee to join the Board and act as chair of the Performance Sub-Committee during an exciting period of change within the charity’s history.

Applications close at 9 a.m. Tuesday 21st January.

Who we are

King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU) is the oldest students’ union in the UK. We are a £11.3m income democratic membership charity that supports, empowers and represents 40,000+ students.

We have just developed our vision for 2030 focused on providing opportunities for students to thrive.

About the role

As a Trustee, you will help the Board to ensure the Union meets its strategic aims and delivers on its vision for 2030.

Our 2030 strategy was built following in-depth research to understand what students require from a modern SU and has actively considered the direct impact of cost-of-living, ever-increasing levels of competition in the employment market and a rapidly evolving world are the backdrop for the incredibly diverse international and growing community of students at King’s College London.

You will act as Chair of our Performance Sub-Committee helping to ensure our strategy is lived, actioned and delivered effectively.

You will work alongside fellow trustees, including students and officers elected to the board. It is a great opportunity to form a mentoring bond with young leaders whilst providing strategic oversight of a multi-million-pound charity.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a Trustee who will be able to provide the skill and knowledge to assist the Board in monitoring KCLSU’s Core activities and the charity’s Commercial Performance, ensuring legal compliance, and providing strategic oversight of the charitable resources.

Our ideal candidate will be someone with a finance background, working in an organisation (profit or non-profit) with commercial elements, who has the relevant skills and experience to support the implementation of our refreshed Strategic Plan, 2025-2030.

Beyond your professional experience, your passion for our students and our overarching mission is paramount. Whether you are a seasoned trustee or someone with corporate governance experience we wholeheartedly welcome your application. We equip all trustees with the necessary training and contextual knowledge allowing them to fully contribute to the board’s endeavours.
